The Yellowfin Tuna
Powerful swimmers, yellowfin tuna are built for
speed. A tuna can fold most of its fins down into grooves in
its body. This ability to become "super-streamlined" makes the
tuna one of the fastest fishes in the sea.
Yellowfin tuna prefer tropical temperatures, so the only time
they visit the outer bay is when strong El Niño currents bring
warm water to Monterey Bay.Cool Facts:
Tuna can swim at speeds up to 40 miles (64 km) per hour and
cruise up to 150 miles per day!
